Just see for yourself:

The youngest performer, Kit Armstrong (9), performed Mozart's Piano Concerto in C minor. (He also studies physics at California State University, Long Beach!). Host Dianne Nicolini interviewed each student in a way that allowed the audience to see that these students are not only gifted, but balanced, regular kids.

Although child prodigy Kit Armstrong has already been compared to Mozart for his piano and composition skills his teachers think that may be an understatement. "Mozart didn't do math and he didn't go to university when he was 9," said Eleanor Sokoloff, 89, Kit's piano instructor at the Curtis Institute of Music. Kit, who is also studying chemistry and abstract algebra at the University of Pennsylvania, recently landed professional management from the same talent agency that represents Jennifer Lopez, Diane Keaton and Yo-Yo Ma. Interview requests are streaming in and he already has been on David Letterman's show

All I can say is WOW! 9 years old? That is just ridiculous (in a good way of course). Some people just have it all. This kid could really do something amazing, either in music or science. I hope he doesn't burn out like so many other prodigies do.

Thanks for sharing that Daniel, that's amazing.

Why don't they let children play?

This kid shouldn't be studying algebra and chemestry. Whats up with this pointless urge to outperform everything. At the end we will all arrive at the same destination anyway. This person has all his life to study chemestry, music and math. He should be playing, with his friends but with math, science and music if he wants. Not study with people twice or thrice his age.

I don't understand, is he studying chemistry and physics? Or both? And abstract algebra? Either way, I suspect the parents.

There are many prodigies out there, like Jay Greenberg. But as good as talent may be, you don't have anything until you develop musicality. Anyone can develop a strong technique.

I'm still jealous, but at the same time a little sorry for the guy. You're right, he's probably missing out on a lot of the joys of life for no good reason.

I understand is his choice not his parents
And I really don't understand what the problem is
People should start using their mind instead of basing their reality on myth and fallcious beliefs
Children don't need to play any more than teens or adults do
Evey human being would need to play and life a simple life, it is not peculiar to children
So there's no difference if he study at university now or when will be 20
He won't be any more ready , like any other human being, to let go play, fun and a simple life
I think that's why they showed that his life is blianced and that he can follow both school and have a life with friends and games and I hope he will be able to keep this life not only in his childhood but during his whole life because any 40 or 70 years old need to play as much as a child need it
I don't understand all this "children should play and their life should be without fun and games when they're adult" thinking
It is not on truth, on psychology, on real life experience it is based on an arbitrary fallacious belief

The truth is that all human need to play, to be loved and protected but only when they're children and it is completely absurd to believe that a children is less mature or intelligence to haver also important education or task in his childhood life like he should only play and think about video games and cartoons and forget about light fun stuff when he grow

And what the problem with studying with people twice or thrice his age?
Whar does come wrong this fallacious belief that human being understand, learn and live better when they're with their peer
Intergenerational friendship is known to enrich life and improve intelligence
That's why in place life Sudbury School or head starter school there are no classes separated by age but all kind of interaction between kids of all ages from 6 to 25
That what instruction was about and that also what life was about
Separating and grouping kids with kids, teens with teens, adults with adults and old people with old people is unnatural and based on the absurd idea that we are supposed to be in the company of own peers only because they understand us better, because we learn better when together, because we're safer when together
Hogwash!!
There have been a lot of time in which my sister has understood better the feeling of a 7 yeard old friend instead of one her age and there have been a lot of times in which I've understand better the feeling of a 70 years old friend instead of someone my age
I've passed my childhood in company of old people as well, people that could have been my grandparents, and they enriched my life a lot, the same for when I had friends of 40 years old in my neighborhood
We used to prepare cakes and other foods a lot
And if I had passed my whole day in company of my 8 - 9 years old peers I would have never made these wonderful experiences
That's also why my sister and I have always be part of neighbourhood groups where we're from all generations and all age and not 9 year old with 9 years old and 16 years old with 16 years old or 21 years old with 21 years old
My life would have been a less interesting and and precious if I had limited myself to the company of my peers only, it would have been completely absurd and limitating in an unnatural way since there's no such grouping in nature
Kit has been interviewed to show that between math and music his life is still full of free time, games and friends (probably more than any young gymnastic or young soccer or basket player) but I'm sure that if there's something that is making his life better and rich while improving his intelligence and comprehension is the chance of having contact with friends and schoolmates of different ages, staying with his peer alone would have just limited his life and creativity as it would have limited mine

I'm still jealous, but at the same time a little sorry for the guy. You're right, he's probably missing out on a lot of the joys of life for no good reason.

I don't so at all
He is probably enjoying his life more than any dumb child that has only peer friends from his school, only watching television and playing videogames, waiting for some attention from his constantly busy parents that are substituted with a babysitter waiting for his teen life being a huge dig of teen depression, mediocrity and rebellion

This kids is interacting with friends of all ages, he is enjoying making and performing music, he is doing something he loves and that is stimulating his mind, he has no problems in school, parents who cares and lot of friends and he will not be a depressed teen not understanding why his life sucks and why his childhood sucks

This kid life is wonderful and you can see in his eyes that he really happy and serene and he's probably misseing out on a lot of the worst things in life such as being the lonely child of parents who are puppet of the capalistic society in a world made of absurd antistintive rules where being a uless Ph.D in something you don't care for is more important than doing what you really love with all your heart and where social life is unexistant always entrapped in compartments based on arbitrary characteristics such as religion, gender, age, nationality, language and skin colour

Wake up !!
Do you really all believe that children of the Western society are living an happy, rich and joyfull life?
Don't you see the depression, loneliness, boredom and fear of Western children living a "standard" life based on standard stupid beliefs from standard brainwashed people?

Well, it's hard to draw any conclusions from the article. We can't assume that he's being deprived just because he's smart, but how can we know that he isn't being pushed and pressured by parents and other adults? Let's just say he is very talented, and hopefully has a bright future ahead. In the meantime, Merry Christmas Eve!

Let's just say he is very talented, and hopefully has a bright future ahead. In the meantime, Merry Christmas Eve!

There were in interview where a woman tried to show the audience that he lives a normal, balanced life and he was asked things like if he has any friends, if he watch television or play with their friends
They also said that his parents never pushed him, in fact they seems reluctant at the beginning but had to allow him to live his life after seeing his determination and desire
You see him playing, you see him talking and you'll see that he is really not pushed or stressed; sad, bored, depressed, compelled and fatigues children are impossible not to recognize you can see the sadness in their eyes while it's less eyes to understand adults emotion because they have learned how to put on a mask and repress their feelings
This kid is happy and his living a wonderful life  :)

Happy Christmas Eve

I heard Kit Armstrong at The Miami  International Piano Festival. I was very impressed with his Beethoven "Tempest" sonata. He is very small and can't play very loud but managed to produce more levels of sound than most adult performers. The slow movement was beautiful and other-worldly( I guess that's "maturity")  I did not have a chance to speak with him but I discussed him with the artistic director afterwards who spent a lot of  time with him.  She found him to be charming, relaxed and cheerful.
