Chords-classical vs pop
on: November 05, 2015, 07:07:48 PM
Hey all,

I hope this is not a stupid question, but I am trying to do some extra stuff alone and by myself--and I was wondering the following:

are the chords one needs to know for pop music the same chords one sees in classical music? I suspect you will know what level player I am by the question so please do not laugh. But is a Dmaj chord of a pop song the same one that you would find in a classical 1803 piano piece?

yes it is exactly the same...  the difference is in classical music you will not see the chord symbols written in above the staff--but they are exactly the same chords.

D is spelled D F# A-- always and forever.  Chords used in jazz tunes tend to be more complex than those used in pop tunes and even some classical pieces... but a chord is a chord is a chord straight across the board.
