Hi all,

I've recently started making piano covers of known songs, i also compose my own music. However, I always wanted to add energy and complexity to my performance by adding runs and advanced piano techniques. Does anybody have any idea on how to learn or create complicated runs?

I cannot speak for anyone else, but before I can answer you question, I need some definitions.

What do you mean by 'advanced piano techinques', 'complexity' and 'complicated runs'.

From the video your improvised arrangement is plentiful with all of the above.  Arpeggios and scales are all that come to mind.

To my ear some explorative chromatic  harmonies would spice it up.

To answer your unwritten questions, it is good, I enjoyed your performance.

Edit: After reflecting, complexity for complexity sake does not always mean it is better; it can often detract from  the music you so beautifully create.

Example:

I am a little confused by your general question.

-or-

You sir have unequivocally discombobulated my mental state with your perplex questioning.

The large words don't make my piont any clearer; it has an adverse effect, and can be perceived as quite pompous.  Another side effect is that it can make the entire piont digressive .

In relation to your arrangement, with added runs flourishes and 'pyrotechnics ' (to use a word), the final product might not even be recognisable as the original melody/tune/cover.

One approach would be to play and analyse many of these figures in other compositions by the masters.

how to learn or create complicated runs??   complicated runs...I am not sure what you mean by that...---this is an arrangement of mine that I am working on... tell me if my runs are complex enough...

be careful....lots of notes + lots of speed does not guarantee great music or even impressive playing...
