Shostakovich & Bach Set
on: January 16, 2016, 08:45:16 PM
Hi all,

I'm working on the Gubaidulina sonata to present at the end of this semester, and I want to set it against a Bach prelude and fugue paired with one by Shostakovich. The Gubaidulina is killer, so I'm hoping to find two that compliment each other but aren't so difficult that they'll distract me too much from the sonata. I also want the Shostakovich to somewhat prepare the ear for how dissonant the Gubaidulina is going to be. I was looking at No. 15 in D-flat major (of course). The prelude really doesn't look too difficult, but the fugue seems intensely complicated. Any insight or advice on either this piece or another with a similar character that won't kill me? And a Bach P&F that will precede it well?

I'm open to any creative ideas anyone comes up with, and I'm not against unorthodox programming.
