Recent spam threads
on: January 19, 2016, 07:45:31 PM
There are some recent threads created by newly registered members that are obviously spam.  Some of these threads have been on PS for several days now.  Can something be done about this?
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

Should have added: did that several days ago with the suspect threads.

About two weeks ago I counted 14 posts in the audition room of
contemporary and rock.  This is a classical site.  It isn't right for those who have
posted recordings to be pushed off the first page because of spam.

I had never realised that it was ever meant to be exclusively classical, or that Johan Sandback had pronounced it so. If he has, then that is his right, I guess, and I shall have to restrict my posting accordingly.

The major worry at present, however, is that quantum, lostinidlewonder and you and I, all long-term, sensible posters, have expressed concern about various matters and have received absolutely no response.

Although I disagree with the topic of them only having to be Classical as I, myself have posted videos such as my Pirates of the Caribbean by Hanz Zimmer and the song 'Let it go' arranged by myself.

I will however argue that the Arrangements themselves don't seem to be that impressive. I mean, they're definitely not amateur-ish, however he seems to just be playing a basic transcription and putting it online was quickly and hastily as he can.

I will however state that I feel any user (like piano_mania), who simply comes here to post videos, in the hopes of garnishing more YouTube views and doesn't help contribute to other forum members threads is clearly here to spam their videos for views.

That I am against. I may have done a few threads in the past, but I think a lot of people can agree that I get involved in other peoples matters and help out when I can.

hello Ted,
Perhaps no response from Nils could be had as his hands are tied because what these guys like piano_mania are doing is to post pieces for comments, the very purpose of audition room, even if it is quite obvious that they are merely after increased views and subscription in their YT channels.  It is an unfortunate and unpleasant situation for the genuine poster.

Possibly, but most of us are pretty capable of ignoring music and posts we are not interested in, classical or otherwise. Complete failure to communicate with sensible members who have made solid contributions over many years betrays an apathy unconnected with matters of musical taste. If your suggestion is true he could still state that was the case and invite suggestions. In any case, the worst cases of mass deletions and pettiness came from classical professionals didn't they ?

I'm not too bothered if people wish to post arrangements of pop music, or whatever - as long as it's done competently (like a few excellent jazz arrangements which have been posted) and not some sub-sophomoric, thrown together in five minutes thing. What I do have a problem with is people who repeatedly drop in such things, and have no interaction with forum users other than to insist their "work" is great when anyone with a modicum of pianistic literacy knows it's not. That IS spam and/or trolling and they are best ignored.

You're right ...  again perhaps he has gotten so tired and fed-up of the repeated and perpetual pettiness! ;D  I just hope that it is a temporary lull and has not become accepted as the norm, like the case of a smoker whose coughing through the years is considered normal by the smoker himself.  :-[
