Sympathies to the people of Asia
on: December 27, 2004, 03:31:39 AM
We have a lot of members from the Asian region and I know for some this is a very sad time.

Mother Nature can be very harsh in your region and I hope your families and friends are well.
My prayers and I am sure those of other members of this forum are with you at this horrible time.

I extend similar wishes to all whose families abroad are affected by this terrible occurrence. My wife was caught under two of the typhoons in Luzon last month while on holiday, so I had an inkling of what it feels like. It is to be hoped that the rest of world responds generously and immediately to this latest catastrophe.

Hope everyone is well.  I was horrified by the destruction I saw on the news.

Neither Singapore nor the Philippines are affected directly by the earthquake or the tsunami. However, there may be Singaporean or Filipino tourists in the affect areas of Asia.

I am in the east coast of West Malaysia and so I'm not in the affected part of the country. Only the north-west coast of West Malaysia is affected and at last count over sixty have died from the impact of the tidal wave. Of course destruction of property is widespread along the affected coast.

Thanks for all your concern.

Sorry to hear that.   :(  I hope they are well and you hear from them soon.  I don't have any family or friends in that region, but I give my sympathies to all who were directly affected by this unprecedented natural disaster.

If you're in the US and have questions regarding the well-being of loved ones in that region, the following information might be of some help.

The State Department established a toll-free telephone number for inquiries about U.S. citizens affected by the Asian earthquake and tsunamis.

The public may call toll free at 888-407-4747. Overseas, people may call 317-472-2328.

Those seeking information also can contact the department's Office of American Citizens Services and Crisis Management, 202-647-5225.

General information about disaster relief, preparation and emergency services to U.S. citizens abroad can be found at the State Department Webpage, https://travel.state.gov/travel/crisismg.html

The whole world needs to join hands for this one.  I personally have donated to Oxfam.  They are on www.oxfam.org.  I like their organization because they stick around and help people rebuild agriculture and farms and such.

I go numb with the information that comes out.  It is hard to comprehend really.  May all these people somehow know and feel that we care and want to help.
