Wide angle voicing needle
on: February 18, 2016, 04:44:55 PM
Quick question here... does any of you know where to find a reasonably priced wide angle single needle voicing tool? The only one I saw so far on the net costs $145. There was a post by David Stanwood about this on pianoworld.

Thanks,
CG

Alright, I made a tool myself from compass needles and a graver handle. Total cost about $20. The result: wow... just one insertion on the shoulder was quite effective at removing harshness and reducing brightness a bit. This doesn't last though. I have seen my tuner do this previously and the effect faded after a couple of months. These Yamaha hammers are very stubborn  :P

The whole procedure took me 15 minutes or so.
