Bach F major Prelude - Improvements?
on: March 03, 2016, 05:46:57 PM
Hello. I am learning how to play the piano again after 3 years off.

I would like to know how I can improve my hand movements as my wrist hurts when I play due to stiffness.

Is this piano OK or is it very out of tune?

Thank you.

The piano is OK i'd consider getting it tuned if that's an option.

Dude, your left hand hurts my eyes, how do you cope? It isn't stiffness, it isnt your wrist, it's clearly your fingers. Why do you play flat fingered in your left hand but curved fingered in your right hand that's your problem.

go through this slowly playing with all curved fingers in the left hand and play with the tips of your fingers. Also I see you raising your non-playing fingers, thats also going to cause strain.

The piece isn't bad but definitely work that out or you will get more problems.

Couple ideas -

One play the left hand alone, but dont actually push the notes with your left hand. get them curved and in place over the notes and get your right hand to push the fingers down, so you can get a better idea of how to press the notes in a more relaxed manner. this won't be a fast exercise but should get you in a more relaxed way with the left hand.

second exercise and requires a bit more prep, take the left hand and mirror it so you can play it in the right hand. see how your right hand plays it and copy that in the left hand take very small passages 3-4 notes just see how your hand moves naturally and then try get the left hand to copy. it doesn't have to be the same notes, but just mirror what the left hand plays and see how your right hand plays it. good luck getting back into learning.
