Pre-performance doubt
on: March 05, 2016, 12:31:32 AM
Hey so as you may know, the concert is tomorrow. I think it is sold out. Oh my gosh

That's what it looks like from the piano on stage :) But anyway I am having some pre-performance doubts. Last night during the rehearsal, I nearly drew a blank. I will attack the audio file. Most of it went ok, but for some reason near the beginning, I played two wrong base notes which reverberated in the pedal. The orchestra got really quiet suddenly because they weren't sure if they were playing the right thing b/c it sounded bad. Anyway, that triggered a lot of doubt and tonight is the final rehearsal before performance day. What shall I do to get rid of these doubts?

You played hundreds of notes most beautifully and still you let TWO (2!) wrong notes bring doubt to your head?  Don't be silly! This movement (and the whole concerto) is so gorgeous. It is an honor to play it. Enjoy this like you have been able to enjoy it until now preparing it and playing rehearsals. You are well prepared and ready! We all here know your ability so we are positive:-)
And, btw, hardly anybody in the audience would notice some lonely, wrong note here or there because what counts is to convey the beauty in the overall performance. And you convey the beauty of Chopin's music.
I will cross my fingers tomorrow night for you. Good luck and enjoy your night!

To be frank with you I don't really care. I'm not here to comfort you I was just replying thought  it would be an amiable thing to say.

ok thank you kawai cs I don't think the others quite got the point. It is indeed silly to be worried about 2 notes. My dad compared it to a beautiful bookshelf he made, on the very back (nobody sees it) he didn't make a board quite as flush as it could have been. We all said, that's silly to be concerned about that, nobody will even care! And yet that is what this is like. Thanks for the help, I'm going to go give it a try :D

oh my friend I put up this exact same post almost before I played my concert last week...  I was blindsided by a news crew 6 minutes or so before the show who proceeded to set up and film... it didn't phase me...

but I stressed out for the last 2 months to the point that I lost 30lbs.  lol.

pre-performance anxiety--and performance anxiety are really not at all the same thing.   I know how you are---and I don't know you at all---but as soon as you see those lights... as soon as you are in the wings looking across the stage at your new best friend--that big black monster you will play--there is NO fear... just excitement...  there have been times when I was sick and I could not get out of performing... it's weird.. but as soon as you are out there you don't feel sick anymore.

it's better than sex, better than drugs..and  totally addicting.

how did it go?
