How to play Schumann Aufschwung with small hands?
on: March 10, 2016, 03:56:07 AM
Looks like I can play the melody of the first theme with the left hand everywhere except when the main theme reprises and the key signature changes back to b flat minor (around measure 115; sorry I don't have measure numbers).  How do others with small hands handle the right hand tenths there?  There are videos of kids playing this piece on youtube who certainly can't reach the chords, but I can't figure out what they are doing.   Leave out the top d flat?  Rolling doesn't seem a good option given the tempo. Thanks for any advice!

Most people just roll it and it sounds fine. But they do it very subtly.

I have small hands as well and played this as a teen, when my hands were even smaller. My teacher had me leave off the top Db for the ones I couldn't reach.
