Very dramatic pieces?
on: March 13, 2016, 09:25:27 PM
I love dramatic pieces so I'd like to hear your suggestions on the most dramatic ones. Things like Chopins Etude op 10 no 4. Or the first 3 pages of Friska in Hungarian Rhapsody number 2.
Recently learned:
Beethoven- sonata 32, op111, I
Chopin- sonata 2, scherzo
Liszt-Etude 4, S.136
Rachmaninoff-Prelude C Sharp Minor
Learning:
Liszt-Transcendeal Etude 2
Chopin-Etude op25 no 11

I love dramatic and fast pieces:-) Rachmaninoff's Moment Musicaux no 4. One of my all time favorites. Very many Chopin pieces. I find very dramatic Polonaise in d-minor, op posth.,  etudes op 25 no 10,11, 12, ballade g-minor, his sonatas, scherzos. Hmm, actually I think it would take less time to list not very dramatic Chopin pieces. Czerny op 740 no 50.

liszt's tarantella. starts off very dramatic. has a very serene middle section, but ends boisterously.

beethoven's pathetique mvt. 1 very dramatic from the first to last notes (even in the beginning grave section)

chopin's heroic polonaise. has a very triumphant, victorious sound to it.

chopin's 2nd scherzo. just sublime...
[zimerman's version is almost necessary, once you have heard it]

if you like dramatic pieces, look into rachmaninoff:
the ever so famous preludes in gminor, and c# minor.
the less well known, but still famous:
etude tableaux op33 no 1, 7, 8
etude tableaux op 39 no 1, 3, 5, 9

other dramatic rach preludes
op 23 no 2

hope I helped.

No. 5 from the above set.

Speaking of Rachmaninoff, I absolutely adore his 10th prelude from this set:

And of course one of my favourite moments ever.
