What kind of information are you looking for?
"U1" is the model number, perhaps you're thinking about "serial number" ?

Hi Axtremus,

I guess you can tell I am new to the piano world.  Yes, I am talking about the Serial Number.

After reading many helpful suggestions from this forum, I had reserved "The Piano Book" and I'll soon be getting it shortly.   I am sure the book will help me understand more in piano.   I signed up my children to take piano lessons and I need to buy a piano ASAP.  I took the piano teachersto piano shops and she suggested a Yamaha U1 because of the sound and values.   I read from the forum one should check out the serial number to make sure it is for the US market.  I am quite confident that the shop is not going to lie to me since this is a new piano.  However, to be a educated consumer, I figure I should at least try to find out more info on it.

My kids and I will be taking piano lessons.  Yes, I am going to take it too.  When I was a kid, I did not have this luxury to learn and I am very excited I can learn  it now.

Thanks

In that case, don't worry. All new Yamaha pianos sold in the US are for the US market. If the dealer is an authorized Yamaha dealer and sells new Yamaha pianos, then the new U1 is for US market.

If you really want to, you can use the contact information on this Yamaha web page to contact Yamaha directly and verify the dealer's status as an "authorized Yamaha dealer" and the serial number for the piano as "made for the US market" for your own peace of mind. But frankly, I don't see the necessity if you're buying a new piano from a big dealer with lots of new Yamaha pianos in a store. I just cannot imagine a dealer getting so many new Yamaha pianos in one store without being an authorized Yamaha dealer. And if it's an authorized dealer, they have to play by certain rules -- which include selling only new Yamaha-branded pianos that Yamaha says can be sold in the US.
