Schumann ''Warum'' Fantasiestucke Recording
on: April 07, 2016, 06:30:07 PM
Hello, everyone. Today, after practising 'warum' from fantasiestucke Schumann, I decided to make a recording just for the fun of it to see my progress while I was practising on my grandfather's Steinway Grand Model D. Although there are some pedalling issues as well as some voicing/singing I am not particularly fond of, I thought I would share it for those interested anyway. Any comments or critique will be appreciated.

p.s. I am only 13, so please don't judge me too harshly  ;)

Wonderful playing! You definitely have a natural inclination towards beauty. Personally, I believe that critiquing unfinished work is a poor idea, so I'll postpone any thoughts I have until you have the whole work finished/polished. In my humble opinion, I think you should abstain from using your age as a device to prevent any frank criticism. You're a very high-level musician, not just for a thirteen-year-old, but for someone of any age. That being said, you know the cliche saying: " With great power, comes great responsibility. " You have a wonderful musical mind, and all of us here at PS expect you to keep using it for the highest achievements. Personally, I would be inclined to critique your work in a more straightforward manner than a lot of other people's recordings, because I find your potential to be so high. Wear harsh criticism as a badge of honor, a lot of the time it means that people think you can process the ideas maturely and apply them in a wonderful way. Of course, some people just like to put others down. But you're a smart person, I'm sure you'll be able to separate the wheat from the chaff. Keep up the great work! I can't wait to hear more from you.

Best,

AJ

Thank you so much for you kind comments AJ. It is such a compliment and I feel so grateful to hear this from anybody, but especially you - someone who I believe displays great musicality and shows it in your playing as well (cough...cough Ballade g minor). Anyway, thank you so much for your kind words and I will make sure I upload a finished copy of ''Warum" sometime soon.... about a week or so. Next Wednesday I am playing Beethoven's sonata Les Adieux so I will make sure i record my performance and upload it here. Anyway, I turn 14 on the 29th on this month, so i guess sooner or later my age will become irrelevant (which I already believe it is anyway).

Thank you so much for your kind words - really appreciate it.
