Favourite non-piano piece?
on: April 09, 2016, 11:23:45 PM
It's rare I come across non-piano pieces that I get addicted to listening too, especially vocal pieces.

However came across this the other day and couldn't stop listening to it!

His music is transcendental , happy someone else brought this up, been posting tthis every chance I get on here for a while

btw should this be moved to repertoire board?
ie

per above, same here as well, too broad to label just one, but everytime I visit this question, I am tempted to just say the heck w/ it and nominate this as my top. Lauridsen is a modern genius and his music has been described by many as transcendental

*goose bumps! ;)

modern 'classical' (tradition) composition is probably just fine. there is still incredibly deep, moving, beautiful new music being composed and performed. I gave Lauridsen's masterpiece o magnum mysterium, my nod for 'favorite classical piece' of all in that thread.

he continues to quietly put stirring, meaningful, and enjoyable music out. here is one of his latest (i believe just first recorded ever in 1/14), composer himself on the piano

'January of 2014, internationally renowned composer Morten Lauridsen served as composer-in-residence at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. During his visit Lauridsen requested to have the Wartburg Choir record his most recent composition, "Prayer." '

Do you mean delibes?? If not, i would like to mention that the delibes flower duet and schubert is what actually got me to vocal classical music. Beautiful stufff.

Brahms and sibelius are my bros when it comes to non piano music. Brahms 4 and sibelius' 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th are the BOMB!

I think I posted this quite late and meant to put it in the "anything but piano" section! xD

I think I must have been lurking in the Audition forum listening to others at the time, I cannot multitask!

Yes, Delibes of course! I guess my brain will never embrace French spellings or pronunciations :-[
What Schubert vocal stuff do you like in particular? I am looking to extend my choking repertoire (Ave Maria) ;)

Im pretty bad with picking favorites..
I started understandingthe beauty of schuberts liederince i started reading along to translated lyrics. its the elf king song that got to me, how he seperates the ranges+tonality depending onthe character is a pretty cool technique; made the song even more chilling. Then i was like, if schubert was badass a writing lieders what about operas, and vocal ensembles?! Then BOOM, i discovered his religious music

My current favorite is the unfinished cantata lazarus, it is SOOOO pretty. God i wish i could speak german (sad face)

His last mass in eflat is also pretty badass.

Schubert Lieder.

What, you say? They don't count because they have piano accompaniment?

Shut your face.

I know this thread is a few weeks old, but I had to respond...

I am obsessed with this work by Allegri called Miserere Mei Deus. I guess I played way to much Civ 4.
