Clementi, M. Sonatina Op. 36 No. 1
on: April 17, 2016, 11:50:41 AM
Hi everyone. Here's my first post for the Audition Room. This piece was recorded on a Friedrich piano. Recorder used was an Asus Laser.

Constructive criticism very much appreciated.  :)

Hi c_minor.
The piece is overall fine, just a couple of slips that will go away with more practice.
Besides this, I played exactly this same piece to my teacher last saturday so I will give you the same advice he gave me :)
1) work more on the dynamics: there are some forte, piano and crescendo markings in the score (or at least in the one I have) while your playing seems to have about the same touch all along.
2) the chords in the right hand at the very end of the last movement should sound more staccato as they are just quavers (except the very last chord).
The second point is easily fixable. I'm working on the first point at the moment ;) good luck with your playing.

@mjames

Thanks for listening. I might post the third sonatina if I have time haha.

@kalospiano

Thanks for the feedback. I agree that the dynamics needs more work. Funny how I thought the dynamics were fine while playing. There's such a big difference between the recording and what I heard while playing. I'll also work on the staccatos like you said. Btw, what edition are you using? I'm currently using the Dover edition.

I have an old version downloaded from IMSLP, it was published by Artaria.
