Can I play just a couple pieces in a series?
on: April 21, 2016, 04:42:13 PM
I want to learn just the first two pieces of the six Op 118 pieces by Brahms. Is that okay?
If I'm performing, and I just play two pieces out of the six, would I end up looking like a hack?

I personally think that like some of his other publications at the time, the different pieces were meant to be played together - though it's not written in stone.
To me it seems like playing parts of 'Kreisleriana' or 'Pictures at an Exhibition' - it's acceptable, but may be a bit odd when playing a recital.
