Bach Invention No. 1
on: May 30, 2016, 07:31:49 PM
Heyo,

I re-learned the Bach invention No. 1 for my first organ lesson tomorrow. The teacher wanted to hear me play something on the piano so I thought Bach. Give me your opinion, I've still got some time to work with it a bit.

EDIT: I removed that video off my channel BUT I posted a new thread with a new recording. Thanks!

Very nice! Hiccup at the end aside, everything sounded in order. Your playing seems fluid and tension-free...good stuff.

Only thing I would try to do with it is a bit more dynamic contrast. Let the last upper/lower echoing theme start a bit softer and build to the end.

Not bad. It sounded a bit too mechanical for my taste, although that could just be the recording quality. I do agree that you should use more dynamic contrast. I know it's a Bach piece, but you are playing it on the piano, so you might as well take advantage of what the piano has to offer: you don't have multiple manuals and different stops like a harpsichord does, but you do have much greater dynamic range and control over the dynamics.

Really nice. Your playing is very fluent and the parts are very clearly and seperately defined. Just curious, why do you want to learn to play the organ?

Thanks for the kind words! Check out my most recent posting of it. It mostly just became more comfortable as I kept playing it. Regarding the organ: to an organist, I would probably say because it's such a powerful instrument yada-yada-yada, but truthfully, most churches I apply to for work require an organist and I can't lie by saying I'm able to play well. I've had a few cringe worthy moments after applying to a job for a pianist and organist at a church when I conceded that I wasn't a true organist. So basically, so I can get a good job at a church.

But...............it's Bach!!!!!!!!!!
