VIDEO: Final Prelude
on: June 04, 2016, 02:29:15 PM
The first recording I ever posted to Piano Street, more than three years ago, was the second prelude from my Nine Preludes for Piano Solo.  At a later point, I posted Prelude No. 1, and after that I posted Preludes 3 through 8 one by one.  Prelude No. 1 opened the cycle with unresolved longing, struggle, and aspiration.  Here, Prelude No. 9 completes it with a burst of pure joy.

Here is the score video for the same prelude.  Where Prelude No. 1 was in the dark, brooding key of D-sharp Minor, this one is set in the parallel major, the bright key of E-flat Major.

The score for the whole nine-prelude set is available through AJ Long's website:  https://ajlongspiano.com/store

Thank you, kalospiano.  I don't seem to get much feedback on my compositions here, so naturally I sometimes wonder what people are thinking.

I enjoyed your harmonic language. Very congenial. The timbre of the piano also seemed sympathetic to the music.

Thanks for your comments, ronde_des_sylphes.  The piano is a Kawai classic grand, which I bought around 1981.  It would make sense that the piano would fit the piece, since I used it when I was composing the preludes (except for parts that I composed away from the keyboard).  I think it would also sound very good on a Steinway, though, especially the opening and middle sections.
