Karma Points?
on: June 27, 2016, 04:44:15 AM
So I've used the "Do you find this post useful?" function that is on pianostreet many times, just wondering if there is going to be anything implemented (or is there somewhere members can look at it that I've missed?) that reveals other members karma points?

Maybe the karma is hidden.... Like a chameleon. But seriously activating some functions in this old forum would be good it's getting so so.... quiet.... unresponsive... Outright boring.

What do you mean? I find my car keys within 10 seconds all the time (which is the acceptable standard here in the U.S. for evidence of miracles).

Of course!
You are God then!

Someone who creates a materialistic God to worship certainly does create a lot of trouble.

We used the karma system "out of the box" for a while but found it insufficient for several reasons and turned the official ratings of each member off. The ratings are stored and are only used occasionally for moderational purposes. There is no way members can see the ratings.

True, the current forum software version is getting close to retirement but we have also intentinally limited the sets of features. It will be upgraded or replaced later this year.

Sorry... but I have to agree here. His threads are multiplying like the common cold.

There should be a ban for this type of trolling that is going on.....  Is Star like a common cold?   No, these posts  are more like a black mold spore: You can't stop it without special equipment and hazard suits.
Nils, please read the insanity of these threads PianoPlayStar has started and help out.

So I came back to this forum a couple days ago after not being here in years. If I remember correctly, we had several very insightful members. I fondly remember reading through many insightful discussions in various threads.

Perusing the forums, most of the threads today seem to be bizarre circle jerks about how fast someone can play, what technical stunts they can pull off, or some weird form of validation seeking while pretending to ask for advice but really only wanting to be told you're awesome (You're probably not.)

What the hell happened? I agree that this place seems to desperately need some sort of karma/upvote/downvote system where if you get enough downvotes, you just get ninja banned.

The insightful members realized they should really be working on their piano playing instead of hanging around here?  ;)

perhaps the forum lost it's dankness.
i shall try to lure them back by adding more dank

*in all seriousness it seems it comes in and goes in waves, yes much livelier and better crowd back in the day, but we see some of the cool long time forumeers here now and then.
Birba, Rachfan, Rode des sylphes, thalbergmad, ahinton, Bob, etc. still post, among others. but I do wish there was more 'what piece should i play' 'whats  your favorite chopin'  and similar type posts.
in particular i wish the audition room had more participation and by people posting regularly vs pop in pianists just trying to get views on your youtube or 'composers' hawking their latest midi/finale/scorch realization...

Lol. I kind of realized. I found most of the old guard seems to still be active in the Audition Room.

There's a bit of a barrier to entry here I think. I've been scrimping my pennies for a pro-ish audio recording setup, but am still about $300 away. Until then, I'd be stuck making iPhone recordings, which is lame. (Especially since I've been doing a new recital program I'd like to record  :()
