on: July 08, 2016, 08:05:12 PM
Hi Guys,
Does anyone know any details of Rich Nienmeyer & Sohn upright overstrung pianos?
Google unfortunately does not bring up any information, wonder if anyone here knows details of its quality and price etc?
Thanks

is this the exact name as you saw it on the piano ? how did it play and sound ?
there was a german piano co. called Niemayer, now made in the glorious people's republik by a big brand there, Dongbei. sometimes the asian makers use the designs and materials from europa for the brand names they've purchased, sometimes not.

That exactly how it was written on the keyboard cover part. It was slightly out of tune but sounded decent!
Any other way to identify the make?

in the roughly half century period from the lat 19th cent. to the 1930s there were literally more piano makers than anyone could list and name. the economic depression came along just as the victrola and wireless (as it was called then) supplanted pianos as a music source in private homes and the great boom was over. is the piano in question from that period ? did you look inside for any brand engraving or such, which often gives the place of manufacture. there were so many piano makers of varying magnitude and production that more than a few left very little traces of existence, but specialists in antique/vintage pianos (the u.k. probably has more than the u.s.), if it's from that period, might be able to help you.
