When Sonny Gets Blue Jazz Standard
on: August 02, 2016, 08:10:59 PM
Never mind the thumbnail. I'm just experimenting to get views. I am taking jazz piano lessons from Amanda Tosoff, that's why I end up playing this kind of stuff. Back then I was playing only conservatory stuff, now it's different times for me. Tell me what you think of my brand new way of playing piano.

your teacher has helped you find a lush, comfortable style. this was pleasant in a bland way. you probably need more freedom in your phrasing, learn the meaning of the maxim, 'it don't mean a thing if it aint got that swing'. remember the song has a lyric, play the phrases like they're being sung and breathed, and feel that you're playing a romantic ballad.
