Favorite lesser known composers?
on: August 30, 2016, 08:06:26 PM
So I'm doing a bit of a obsessively meticulous sweep of Wikipedia. There are of course thousands of entries especially the closer to modern times it gets. I'm listening to each  composer across the centuries.
I've come across a couple of great composers that I've never heard of, like Moszkowski (probably not totally looked over but I'd never heard of him), Chausson, von Schellendorf and Karl Davydov.
So to expedite the process, I'd like to know who other pianists enjoy, although I still am going to dedicate time for the next couple of months to this fruitful search.

been absolutely gaga for his music for a while now, been so busy had not stopped to listen to it past few months. glad i can post/repost him. btw op should use search function, this has been addressed a ton before my time as well as by myself, worov and many others recently in multiple threads easily found by browsing or typing into search field.
but i'll bit once or twice on this at least.
skip over to 13:05 for a juicy dose of ear floss. love the melodic lines and b section almost Scriabin like ecstasy it builds up to effectively

Espadero works, especially some of the larger scale ones are exceedingly rare in score and recording. here one of my favorite 'underrated' pianist , Lydie Solomon goes at it on the only video I know of for the Cuban Grand Fantasy

Does Alkan still count as lesser known? By now, it seems that many pianists know about him, and more and more people are learning and performing/recording his works.

I also like Bortkiewicz. Check out this ballade performed by Koji Attwood, which is THE performance of this piece  8)
