That Big Squid
on: April 04, 2003, 07:19:50 AM
So I am checking out the piano board to see what's new and I get distracted by this story about this HUGE squid 300+ pounds they caught near New Zealand!  Geez!  There's a bunch of Aussies and New Zealanders on this board, eh?  Do you guys run into this sort of thing on a regular basis?  I mean, you guys are macho studs if you do!

I'm telling you, that would be one sinking feeling (maybe literally) to run into one of those things when you are swimming.  Yuck.

Sort of ironic and sad that they catch this amazing thing, and now it's DEAD.

lots of those come up when you're near the pacific. we've got whale sharks here. oh well, stupid people, they kill them. they're not even harmful. they're adorable.

about the squid thing. poor squid, i think it must be very old. there are lots of giant squids and octopuses out there. some can reach to be as big as 2 school buses, alright. well, that's wonderful. think of the food supply if you catch such a big squid. i don't think they're endangerd yet like the whale shark.

Women and the Chopin Competition: Breaking Barriers in Classical Music

The piano, a sleek monument of polished wood and ivory keys, holds a curious, often paradoxical, position in music history, especially for women. While offering a crucial outlet for female expression in societies where opportunities were often limited, it also became a stage for complex gender dynamics, sometimes subtle, sometimes stark. From drawing-room whispers in the 19th century to the thunderous applause of today’s concert halls, the story of women and the piano is a narrative woven with threads of remarkable progress and stubbornly persistent challenges.
