Hi all,

4 years ago, I started composing original piano music. However, I just know very few contemporary composers. So I would really appreciate it if you could tell me who is favorite composer and what distinguish him/her the most?

Here is one of my original compositions, I would really love to hear your feedback and comments in every aspect of the performance :D

Hmmm several on top list for contemporary and or alive today. Hamauzu is almost always floating around in my top 3, as for why, hard to really say in a short statement but he has a knack for melody and pia writing in general using a neoimpressionost idiom and jazz language while blendi g classical elements and  a variety of textures
Ie

Also his variety and talent for piano in ensemble settings, his chamber works string solo plus piano are freagin awesome

As are.his 12 etudes

01:39 - No. 2 in D-Major
03:36 - No. 3 in F-Sharp Minor
04:49 - No. 4 in C-Major
06:33 - No. 5 in C-Major
07:55 - No. 6 in D-Minor "Blank"
12:07 - No. 7 in B-Flat Major

Lovely original compositions those are! My favorite contemporary composer is Masashi Hamauzu. Like the previous comment I too love his piano and ensemble work. In fact, I just recording a performance of myself playing one of those etudes!

David Thomas Roberts:

Why ? Wouldn't have a clue really, I suppose because he speaks directly to the heart, at once intimate and universal, gifted creator of melody, influenced by ragtime, which I love.

Not super-familiar with very many contemporary composers ...

But my favorite is Marc-Andre Hamelin. Got to love his Variations on a Theme by Paganini (even if it is nigh-impossible to play). I'm hoping to learn them and post a video ... sometime over the next few years.  :P
Practicing:
Bach Chromatic Fantasie and Fugue
Beethoven Sonata Op. 10 No. 1
Shostakovich Preludes Op. 34
Scriabin Etude Op. 2 No. 1
Liszt Fantasie and Fugue on BACH

Surely one of my faves is Frederic Rzewski. His ultra-stark piano style of his later works is immensely personal
Currently on:
Bach - WTK Book 1 n. 5-6
Beethoven - Sonate Pathétique
Rachmaninov - Polichinelle op. 3
Studies from Clementi and Moscheles
Telemann - Fantasias 1-2 in D
Haydn - b minor Sonata
