Are You Ebony Or Ivory?

Not your skin, silly.  Your *screen!*

Now that the owner has kindly given us a choice of a black screen or a white one, I'm wondering who has chosen what.

Me, I've gone white.  It's a real change, but I think I can get used to it. :D

I still use the black background.  Never had any problem reading the white letters on the dark background.

I feel like doing a little statistical test on this one.  If everyone who gives his choice, also gives his eye-colour, we can see if there's a connection between the preference of background colour and eye colour.
Should be fun ;D

(OK, I admit, I'm a bit bored  ::))

I've kept black. Couldn't be bothered changing, and I'm used to black from elsewhere.

And my eyes are blue.

I kept black too.  It just looks better.  I have blue eyes....

White/green.

(Background/eyes, of course.  Not the other way around.)

The black background did not bother me, but I do find the white background makes all the page elements stand out more clearly, like the various buttons in this composition window and such.  Reading the text itself was never a problem.

Ivory/white with black print.  Easier on the eyes.

Ebony/brown

I also don't have a problem seeing the content on the original dark BG /w white text.  I think the Ebony has more character... :)

Ebony, eye color changes between brown and hazel (though I've yet to find out what makes my eyes change color - I didn't even notice this happened until a friend pointed out that my eyes were green a few months ago.)

A black background is better for your eyes, in my opinion. Staring at a white background is like staring at a lightbulb with a few black letters etched on it. Also depends on the light surrounding you - it's not good for your eyes to stare at a bright screen in a dark environment because your eyes have difficulty adjusting properly to the amount of light around you. At least that's my theory...   ::)

I have blue eyes and I prefer black on white. I do a lot of programming and, over the years, have found a largish (around 14 pt) black font on a light tan background an optimal combination for prolonged computer work.

I 've used exactly the same combination for programming and custom data entry forms for years.

*bump*

I'm gonna need some more eye-colours and background colours to do the statistics...  Sample size is still a bit small...  Come on, next monday I have my biostatistics exam, I need to practice  ;D

Some people didn't give their eye colour  :'(

Hey Floristan and Richard, poor Calidris needs your eye color.   He's got an assignment to complete.

OK, since this seems to have died out anyway, I've put all the info together and found out that no matter what statistical test I'd unleash on it, I would find no difference between the eye colours...

Black Backgr - White Backgr
Blue31
Brown31
Green31

Just looking at the numbers alone, you won't see any difference, that's right. However, if you apply Bayesian Statistics, you will find one very well. In case, you haven't heard about this type of statistics, it takes into account prior information on the subject. So, for example, if you knew that the preference for a black background of people with brown:green:blue eyes in the entire population of the Earth is 4:2:3 (just a guess), you'll see immediately that your poll indicates an unexpectedly high percentage of pianists with green eyes and an unexpectedly low percentage of pianists with brown eyes that vote for black backgrounds.

Have fun!
