Ive read negative reviews in the forum regarding this digital piano.

I was thinking in buying it, but those reviews put me down.  :-\

Is that bad?

Yes, I would say that it's pretty bad that posts on this forum put you down :-[

Seriously,
1. try all digitals in your price range
2. read all the manuals beforehand (they usually can be downloaded), so that you know what you can expect (sound samples, action, capability of the pedals, connectivity)
3. play some more
4. don't buy anything you haven't played and thoroughly tested in person
5. play some more
6. narrow down your selection
7. play some more
8. ask for the opinions of forum members about the two or three final candidates to make sure there is no critical aspect you overlooked
9. play some more
10. sleep some
11.  get the digital that is most satifying to YOU

xvimbi, now that was funny.

I have an HP2 and would not touch the HP1 with a 10 foot pole. It's really not a very good piano. If you can afford the HP2, I woud go for that. Try out the two and you will see a major difference.

Follow xvimbi's advice. It's very good.

Try other makes if you can. At a certain point it becomes personnal.

But don't get the HP1. It is very lacking unless that really is all you can afford and you can exchange it later for a better make.

I love my HP2

Honestly,, it all depends on the digital piano your looking at,,, There are some around 5 grand!! they have realistic  ultra-responsive touch actions and so on... so,, if you're going to pay around 500 for a Roland, Kurzweil, Korg, Yamaha,, forget it!! If you want the realistic piano feel,, weighted keys, piano-style action (superlative).. then you'll have to be ready to pay.  So in other words,, you'll end up forking over as much as a used upright piano, and maybe even a new one.. ($1,000 +)

I myself use a Roland Digital Keyboard (with the superlative hammer action) for writing music,, I have it hooked up to my computer, got cakewalk running  ;), and I use it only for riffs and some little practice,,, and nothing more,, I'm not sitting here playing Hungarian Rhapsody or anything,,, but,, its perfect for what I do,, late night (around 12-3a.m.) I cannot unleash the Grand Piano and wake up the whole street  ;D
