Satie's Gnossienne No.3
on: January 03, 2017, 10:33:33 PM
Helo everybody. I'm new to a wonderful world of piano. I'm 39 years old and not long ago I decided to learn playing on this fantastic instrument. 4 month ago I bought Yamaha P-45 as my first tool and started learning on my own.

When I look back, I can remember that my fascination on piano music began with Erik Satie's compositions I heard in "Mr Nobody" picture. That is why Gnossiennes and Gymnopedies are one of the first pieces I'm trying to learn.

As I don't know in my surrounding anyone who is a fond of classical music, or just interested in my progression, I will be most thankful for your opinions on my below performance of Gnossienne No.3.
Any advices, suggestions will be more than welcome! :)

I liked your playing, keep up the good work ;)

My favorite gnossiennes are the number 1 and 4. I think Satie is a great resource for beginners who want to play very beautiful music, although it's not actually so easy at first; it does take a little bit of time to get used to it, and then it flows much more lightly, or at least this was my experience.

Maybe try to add some more dynamic variation to Satie's pieces, with some pianissimo here and some crescendos there. It's music that gives much freedom to the player's personal interpretation.

Thank you for recording a piece I've never heard before.  Best performance I've heard of this. :D
WFMT-FM service (Chicago) plays Satie occasionally but always the same three pieces. Not this one.
WFMT does have steaming on their website now if you don't have classical FM radio in your country, but do have medium or high speed internet service.
I've done a lot of listening to classical music and announcer commentary over the years on the FM band, but only since the internet was invented has anybody ever read anything I said about it.

Kalospiano thank you for your advices! My favorite intepretation is by Pasqual Roge. He carries an incredible athmosphere and plays really slow. After I recorded myself, I noticed that I play too fast and rigid comparing to how I would like me to sound! I need to play more from the heart,  but I guess it will come with more practice.

Indianajo I bet that was the best version you've heard since that's been the first one ☺️

Take Your Seat! Trifonov Plays Brahms in Berlin

“He has everything and more – tenderness and also the demonic element. I never heard anything like that,” as Martha Argerich once said of Daniil Trifonov. To celebrate the end of the year, the star pianist performs Johannes Brahms’s monumental Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Philharmoniker and Kirill Petrenko on December 31.
