Who are the professional concertists of our forum ?
on: January 11, 2005, 11:30:41 AM
I entered the forum not so long ago so I can't figure out who among the members of PF are making a living of their piano performances, except our very dear Elena Hammel.

So who else (including Jazz pianists if any) ?

He, he, let me say some old "cliché", Elena, your very wealth is your talent and artist skills  ;D...

Does it sound convincing as a consolation  :P ?

you make it sound impossible.  what about student loans?  and, my recent textbook (which i haven't bought yet) that is 1/2 inch thick and is $60?  (i am thinking of going to barnes and noble).  will i end up living out of my car because i love piano?  do all professional pianists ( i am working on the professional part) end up like mozart?  will we be buried in a pauper's grave?

ok.  i am working on becoming a professional pianist.  does anyone care?  how can i be different than the geniuses that already play and get a jump start?  should i try making a cd once my spring recital is ready?  who do i send the cd to (besides family?)  what will become of my cd?

do you know why benches fall apart?  it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them.  hint:  buy a bench that does not hinge.  buy it for sturdiness.

Personally I know nothing about being a professional in music, but it seems to me you ask (to yourself) too many questions. The most important thing, I suppose, is to make sure you will enjoy yourself as a professional pianist. If you only think of it on the money side, you won't do anything, I guess.

Everything depends on what you aim in life. If you want to devote your life to your very love of piano music, just do it, try it by any means, maybe some day you will be paid $$$ for each concert, maybe not. If you want a lot of money, you'd better become Britney Spears composer or sell stolen cars  ;D (just kidding).

Well, nobody unveiled his face as a concertist yet. Is it shyness, modesty or protectiveness of privacy 8) ?

Elena, do me a favor, and email me (anthony.marek@gmail.com) the details of your New York recital that's coming up in June.  I'm attending school in the city and probably will remain there in the summer, and I'd love to attend if I'm around.

dear athakay,  i did marry well.  he is a baritone and i accompany him a lot.  we have fun, but all along he has made money (computer guy) that i never would dream of making.  now, i want to turn the tables and surprise him.  of course teaching will be part, but i really want to perform.  how do i get going?
