Loss of interest in subjective threads
on: January 12, 2005, 03:26:37 AM
I find the longer I have been here at the forum, the more I am losing interest in such threads asking who I think is the GREATEST composer, or what is the BEST piece ever written.  These are all questions involving different backgrounds and there is no right or wrong answer!  We may as well start a communism vs. capitalism thread..
(sigh) maybe Im just getting tired of caring what I think compared to others..

now, what was the point I was trying to make by starting this thread?

You raise an excellent point.  I rarely read other peoples' replies to such posts.  But maybe that's because I'm a self-centered prick.  ::)

Isn't it wonderful that we are free to ignore threads that do not interest us?!!! :) ;)

well, the thing is I used to be into survey type threads but Ive just drifted away not caring lately..

especially since newbies come and make new generations of the same old questions.  Not too long ago I was a newbie and I wonder if Bernhard, Janice, or xvimbi among others thought the same thing.

You are absolutely right. Yet, I do still occasionally engage in subjective discussions with gusto, particularly when they involve bashing Lang Lang  ;D ;D

I rarely post (though I'm on break, so i've been saying a bit more recently), but I drop by the forums quite a bit, usually goes with checking email.  In general, I post in threads that I feel I can contribute something which hasn't been already stated, and which will actually help someone in a piano-related issue. The subjective threads really don't help anybody out (besides making newbies aware of Lang Lang's empty playing  ;)), so I pretty much never post in them.

In fact, I don't know why I posted here. I think I'll go to bed now.  :)

I'm confused.  Do I wonder what?

janice he's wondering if you find it annoying reading the same questions over and over again

yes you don't care about such threads donjuan because they're just an expression of personal preference except nobody really cares about other people's answers, just stating your own.

but if you would like to be helpful then go to the non-piano place and give me a nice fat criticism of my latest pic!
