Poème symphonique - Le matin
on: March 09, 2017, 12:45:15 AM
Hello, this is an older piece on which I updated the dynamics and some minor stuff, played by new sounds from the software, so I thought I would post it, I'd be happy to know opinions and what and where I could improve

Here is the link to the piece:

Nice work here, Francois.
Lovely; impressionistic.. I like the harmonic palette, and the plaintive melodic movement. I felt the orchestration worked except that i am uncertain about the piano in this context.. It is used for some chords, which are highlighted as a solo - but only momentarily.. Then the piano is used for the runs later on, which is an effect that could be employed by the harp.. So, although the piano works, i think it is tricky to integrate it into orchestra if it is not the 'solo' instrument - like a concerto.. It seems like it wants to be a concerto in places, but is only fleeting, but also not fully integrated into the orchestra as an equal part either… So, just some thoughts.
I enjoyed it. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for your comment :) I'm glad you like it! It's true, I thought of substituting the piano for the harp, and I tried it yesterday, and there are parts I like better with the harp, especially the ones with the runs, I'm still trying to figure out for the rest. But what is for sure I'm updating other parts in it, and I'm extending the piece, which was my original intent, except I had to rush into finishing it cause I had a deadline for submitting it somewhere.
