Very impressive. Does anyone know what Earl Wild is playing? This "droid" seems to me like an updated version of what was called a Vorsetzer as manufactured by Welte-Mignon. That was a device that played the piano with felt covered wooden fingers and was wheeled up to the keyboard to "strut its stuff."

The narration mentioned Wayne Stahnke's studio as a source for this particular performance. For those who may not know, Mr. Stahnke is an important figure in the development of ever more sophisticated piano reproduction systems. I've had two of his CD releases of Rachmaninoff [A Window in Time, etc] in my collection for a long time and consider them quite successful, although not all critical comment has been as enthusiastic as my own.

It's the d'Albert Scherzo in F#, op 16 no 2.

No offense, but to me this is essentially the same exact thing as the Yamaha Disklavier, except you've got an ugly looking robotic metal utensil sitting in front of the keys, covering up your ability to see the keys play.

Piano Street Magazine:
Take Your Seat! Trifonov Plays Brahms in Berlin

“He has everything and more – tenderness and also the demonic element. I never heard anything like that,” as Martha Argerich once said of Daniil Trifonov. To celebrate the end of the year, the star pianist performs Johannes Brahms’s monumental Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Philharmoniker and Kirill Petrenko on December 31. Piano Street’s members are invited to watch the livestream. Read more
