Some quick words from J. Rezzuto

This month is very busy at WKMT. We have just came out from our LMF 11.03.2017 at the Arts Club 1901 and now we are heading towards our WKMT Club’s - Classical Concert the 25th of March -this coming Saturday at 7pm-. Maybe one of the most impressive concerts ever organized by WKMT. The best music to be played by Sabrina Curpanen and Hitomi Inujima who will deliver two fabulous Beethoven Sonata’s. The concert is scheduled to happen at the stunning St. Cuthbert’s Philbeach Gardens, Earls Court, London. Entrance is complimentary for WKMT members and their parties.

As piano teachers, we need to keep ourselves focused and musically active. Sometimes dealing with crazy schedules might interfere with our own artistry, but we never have to forget we are music teachers, and ultimately musicians.

 
Coming back to our training session...
When?, Where? Topics?

Along these lines we are also organizing our next teachers-training-session to happen on Friday 31st of March 9.30am at WKMT Kensington. The topics to be talked about are mainly related to teaching / our work as piano tutors. We will work on understanding which resources to use with our most beginner students. We will also talk about how to frame lessons with both students and parents, as well as how to explain what to expect from our training itself.

If you have recently joined WKMT, then this meeting is an un-missable event. Why? Because you will get the chance to interact professionally with your colleagues. You will be able to discuss about how to approach your students and listen to new ideas about how to help your yours.


Reports

We will try also to work on how to organize our lessons so we can produce reports during the sessions without cutting the attention we pay to our students. Reports are a fundamental part of our teaching as they become the plan-to-follow for our students’ homework.

Reports need to be neat so wwe don’t confuse our colleagues when they cover us. We have recently noticed some ambiguities in the way some reports are organized and written in general. Remember you can always go back to our teacher’s manual and check the standard from the reports should follow. Producing irregular reports translate in confusion and it makes as look disorganised as a team. Reports shouldn’t be a “bother” but a useful tool to increase our focus and ours students’ by clarifying topics while we write them and making sure our lessons are clearly understood. They also provide pauses, which are very necessary to recover from one teaching section to the other.

“House” Memorizing Method

If we count with enough time we will try and review our “house” memorizing method as it has proven to be very helpful when dealing with students who don’t play as much as they should.

For those who don’t remember, this method is organized so our piano students can learn  how to use the six “memories” involved in learning a musical piece. As piano tutors, we need to make sure our piano students develop both their sight-reading skills and their memorizing ones as well. Memorizing a musical piece remains a core skill for soloist performers. It also allows our prospect pianists to gain far more confidence in their own performance skills which translates in more fluid deliveries.

This method, devised by Maria Rosa Oubinia de Castro and inspired in the “Vicente Sacaramuzza piano technique”, helps our students to funnel all their intellectual resources towards securing a piece for its reliable performance.

About time WKMT got its own forum.

They have their own site, and simply copy and paste what they write onto other sites such as this one.  The present post is not a communication of any sort.  It's sort of like a local internal memo about their own processes.  It's strange for it to be there.  Are people intended to register and fly in from Japan, the US, Ghana?
