Souvenirs from Florida
on: June 14, 2017, 09:44:23 PM
I had a recital/vacation in Florida back in March and recorded a couple improvised mementos on the last day. These were recorded minutes apart but on separate instruments, one in a practice room, the second in my friend's piano studio where he teaches. Musical development happens as a sort of mysterious force sometimes.

These are great man! I felt what you were trying to say... The second improvisation reminds me of late Scriabin!! thank you for sharing. This is what music is all about. 7 billion different people with 7 billion different musical voices... and all of them are valid. Take care.

Thanks for listening. I enjoy your sentiments. Improvisation is to me the most natural approach to any instrument...funny how novel it is in some circles.

These give me plenty to think about, Dave. I am impressed by the transitional form in the first one. It is as if one gradually leaves a centre of intense activity, until the energy finally concentrates into a tiny piano figure, like looking through the wrong end of a telescope. Mr Prokofiev drops in to comment once or twice but the overall conception is yours. It seems to me your command of phrase and rhythm as spontaneous drivers of idea generation has developed a great deal in recent years.

No, I cannot understand why most players do not improvise either. They must surely feel terribly frustrated, but I suppose if you had never done it you wouldn't know what you were missing.

Thanks a lot Ted for the wonderful description which gives me a lot to think about. I love how thoughtfully you approach music whether yours or ours.
