Repertoire related to winter and Xmas
on: July 08, 2017, 10:21:26 AM
Good day everyone,

I was to give a recital on December. They said they wanted something related to winter and Xmas. Anyone has a good one besides Tchaikovsky seasons ( I do not like much the December one).

Thanks all for your help.

How about Debussy's 'the snow is dancing'

Or sections of the nutcracker arranged for a piano solo

Or Carol of the Bells

Or a  Christmas medley

REINECKE SONATINA OP 251 NO 3 "CHRISTMAS"
lovely work in typical conservative style we usually get from Karl/Carl. Has very pretty moments and embdedded teaditional carols incorporated into its themes and developments throughout.

This is a fun one, i learned it years ago, there is a lot of original and highly creative reimagining of the harmonic and melodic framework of the theme

A little milder but not less beautiful and w  a low tech buy in, Daisuke Kashiwa, did a wonderful.arr of my favorite things. Although not specifically winter or xmas, in recent years it gets platyed more around the time so has become unofficial holiday music of sorts. The Stephen Hough.ver is the apex of imaginings of the piece, but this is super pretty and very approachable from album

What a great contribution!!!!!!!!
Mean while...i remembered I played Jesu, Joy of manīs desiring some time ago arr by Hess.
The concert is in Portugal so not much snow spirit around here.  ::). Mendelssohn shall be interesting as well Reinecke.

Anyone noticed the massive work that Liszt created for his grandaughter called Christmas Tree that lasts 48 mins? A bit too slow paced for my taste but maybe I can play some excerpts.

What a wonderful piece of music! You either need to be banned from posting anything new, or I need to quit listening to anything you post.... because I continually add to my 'want to play list' every day  from what you have  posted and they're just not enough hours left in the day to learn  it all 😂   This one definitely goes near the top of my list

haha you habe great taste!!! ;D
🤓🖐🖐🎹
ok.i can stop/slow it down for  while lol
I although i got the score specifically for another piece in the album,  that etude grew on me despite my repeatedly falling flat on my face.when trying to read through parts of it! Lol
Really effective and well written for the instrument and lends itself well to recitals , compeition, festivals etc., it deserves and is most definitely  show and stage work, it is on my list as a festival/compition audition piece to learn also, i have it high on list as you do haha
Here.is some  chatter about it [album]  from few months ago where i assisted someone with getting the score.
