on: July 14, 2017, 12:30:09 PM
Hi may i ask if it is possible to sight read pieces like those in faber adventure popular 3A/3B funtime series and play at a fast speed.(maybe can play at a fast speed by the third tries?)
Is this sight reading attainable for average people?

Some people are able to sight read far more difficult and complex music than that. I knew an accompanist whole would regularly have to sight read eight separate staves of a choral piece when accompanying for choir rehearsals.

Your sight reading will improve according to how much you do it but I would say that yes, given enough time and practice, sight reading faber adventure popular 3A/3B funtime series is attainable for average people.

Yes.  Most people on the forum can do that.

But if you're at level 2, you can't sightread 3 at speed.  If you're able to learn a piece at level 3, you can't sightread at speed.  If you're level 4 and up, you should be able to.

The reason a lot of us can't read difficult music at speed is we aren't good enough to play difficult pieces except with great effort.  You have to increase your level.

That doesn't mean sightreading isn't a separate skill.  You do have to practice that too.  But it is highly dependent on your level.

The more you do, the more you can do.
I've been playing 59 years and I can now sight read about level six or so. If there aren't a lot of accidentals and it is not too fast.  Not amazing, but good enough to play hymns for a small congregation.
I've noticed many other people learned faster than I did.  Oh well, playing piano is not a competition, it is an art.  I'm out there playing in public, and the amazing performers are not. The congregations uses a computer to play tracks when I am not there.
