looking for advice/tips (fantasie impromptu)
on: July 17, 2017, 11:50:04 PM
I looked through past posts on this issue, but it seems that I have a unique problem.
I am learning this piece by myself as an adult. So far, I can play it at 80-90% speed. I realize that speed is not as important as accuracy, so I'm not necessarily worried about that. However, it seems I have a different problem.
The 2nd part (the easier/slow part) is supposed to be easy. It didn't take long to learn. However, I also have trouble remembering/memorizing it, because it all sounds so similar. But seriously, I get to the point where I can't really remember which part comes next unless I look at the music.
The 3rd part (is like the first part), EXCEPT I have trouble w/ the speed starting in bar 119. I can only play it at about 50% speed on a good day because my hands can't move fast enough and I lose track with so many repetitions in the left hand.
It feels like this is where I hit a plateau, and I don't really have a great strategy for moving forward. Clearly, I'm only doing it for pleasure, and I really like the piece, but it sure would be nice if I could solve those 2 problems because seriously - I never dreamed it would be possible to get this far. As a child, I maybe made Grade 2 piano, and I switched to playing the organ
Tips? Advice? Anyone else have this problem? I do enjoy playing and hope to get over the last hump someday.
Thanks!
