Does it take longer to log in?
on: July 30, 2017, 12:04:33 PM
I noticed when I click to log in and then after signing in, it seems like it's taking longer.

I thought this eighteen months ago, Bob, and posted about it, but then it returned to normal.

But yes, you're right, the login time on this site seems to be much more variable than that on other sites.

Sometimes the server is busier than usual with maintenance tasks and it can then temporarily take longer to process the login.
After submitting the form by clicking the login button it should normally take a second or two (the message "You will be redirected...) before the "my account" page is loaded. How much longer is it taking, Bob, and is it the same every time you log in? Anyone else having this problem?

Longer than 2 seconds for sure.  Maybe 10-30?  A minute?  I started logging in and then go to a different site for a while while it logs in.

Looks like....
12 seconds to get to "redirected to protected area."
Then at 25 seconds from putting in my password it actually logs in.

Dang.  Must be me.  I'm using Opera with a saved password.  Maybe something with that.

I just tried Chrome.  Fresh profile, fresh Chrome start on a profile.  Manually logged in.  Instant log in.

Something to watch out for, as I intend to.

However, speaking of things, it is kind of annoying that the cookies expire for this site, requiring, at least for me (my phone using UC Browser and some other one, which I don't use very much for browsing, and Firefox for Linux, also Chrome on ChromeOS and Win10 using FF), logging in afresh, instead of just jumping to a bookmark for "show unread posts," like all other forums?

I'm not complaining, I'm just curious why and how that works.
My name is Nellie, and I take pride in helping protect the children of my community through active leadership roles in my local church and in the Boy Scouts of America.  Bad word make me sad.

Not sure what changed, but logging in is fast/normal again now.  It's less than a second.

Logging in is waaay fast, nearly instant today.  It was still doing the pause/long log in thing for me for a while.  Could be on my end.  But very, very fast just now compared to the last time I logged in.
