Prokofiev - Five Pieces from Romeo & Juliet, op.75
on: August 09, 2017, 04:36:35 PM
prokofiev's arrangement of ten pieces from Romeo & Juliet came about because he had trouble getting the ballet staged when it was first written, for different reasons. so in order to popularize the music, he made these ten piano pieces, and the orchestral suites. the melodies are unforgettable, it's among his best music, and the piano arrangements - usually not literally from the ballet but containing so many of the tunes - are surely as good on the piano as his sonatas.

here are five -
I. Folk Dance
II. The Street Awakens
VI. Montagues & Capulets (Dance of the Knights)
IX. Dance of the Lily Maidens
X. Romeo & Juliet Before Parting

soem of my favorite piano music to play
