Chopin Fantasie Impromptu Opus 66 in C sharp minor
on: December 03, 2017, 06:16:11 PM
Dear All!

First of all, I'm not a professional pianist, I'm self taught and I have learned in a basic music conservatorie (mainly for children) as an adult.

This is my new piece from Chopin after a Mazurka and two Nocturne.

Instrument: Yamaha CLP 535

Thanks for posting, and well done. For self-taught, I'd say it's coming along nicely. The two biggest pieces of advice I can give:

1) I can see that in some of the sections you are not as comfortable with, you have a tendency to tighten up and play with just your fingers, rather than allowing your arm to be free and loose (see ~24 second mark). Practice those sections you have the most difficulty with as slow as needed to allow your arm and wrist to be free, and let them flow with your hand.

2) I don't know what other pieces you are learning, but if you aren't spending any time with Bach, I recommend picking up the Inventions and Sinfonias. Play slooowly, with correct fingering, and eventually work up the speed. Bach is the ultimate teacher :)

Thank you Tenk for your response. I'm keep on practicing the piece. I will post it again in the future if it's ready, because it's not ready yet I know, but wanted to post it :)

1) The tighten up is coming from the fact that it was the ~30. try on this day to record it, because I wanted to record it better and better, but it went worse than I wanted it to be.

2) I have played many other pieces, the slower pieces are fit under my hands better, it is my first "faster" piece.
