OK I am being bad... Bösi
on: December 07, 2017, 03:33:15 AM
I just posted on another thread about who else played a new 225 Bösendorfer at Jordan Kitts. They are offering me the instrument at 85K, marked down from 177k. What is the street price (not BS retail listing) of a 225?

Just got the answer: Lowest is $110k, normal $115 to $130k. So I've found a bargain at $85k, probably because the piano sat and the dealer is now paying interest. At least that is what Larry Fine suggested...

So now the big question, you gonna do it ? And the statement if you do, you got a steal !
Depressing the pedal on an out of tune acoustic piano and playing does not result in tonal color control or add interest, it's called obnoxious.

I love the sound of the Bosi grand George Winston plays on his famous Windham Hill LP's & CD's.  You can see the brand on the fallboard in the vile sounding video of his Holly & the Ivy, But listen to the real track on a CD or LP over headphones or great speakers.  That ping his Bosi produces is enough to pry me away from my beloved Baldwin Acrosonic consoles of the sixties.  Like ice breaking off branches in the winter after a storm.  Whether it is just that one with the sound, or all of them, I don't know.
But bosi's are a dream to me, I don't even own a house worth what you are talking of buying this one for.  I've never heard a bosi live, and likely never will. Certainly not in this flyover state, or the next one either.  Maybe in Nashville, TN, although country music doesn't usually value great pianos.  There is a Bechstein down there though.
Be aware that previous posters have said bosis have thinner strings than Steinways etc, which stretch and require replacing after some years of heavy use, maybe ten.  A thinner string would stretch even unplayed, I certainly see that effect on regular .028" strings (wires) on consoles that have sat unplayed for 15 years.
Happy shopping.
