Statistics on children taking piano lessons
on: January 16, 2018, 02:28:01 PM
I'm writing a children's book about piano recitals, and to sell it to a publisher I'd like to find statistics on the number of children taking piano lessons in the U.S. Any ideas on where I can look for those? Thank you.

Would this even necessarily get recorded? Where? Tax forms - do piano teachers report how many students they teach per annum? Or just what their gross and net salary is? I'm not imagining off hand that this would get recorded anywhere.

I don't know but it's possible that surveys have been done as part of some academic research project. If I was looking for that info and couldn't find it with a Google search I would start searching Journal databases (then give up after 10 minutes because it's too boring & confusing
).

Not the same thing, but possibly a starting point...
The ABRSM collect lesson data and publish a statistics page. I couldn't find the right link but this may point you in a useful direction.

Other boards may do something similar.
Good Luck.

Maybe something here?

Private lessons would really be difficult to measure I would think.
