*** February Scale Challenge ***
on: February 02, 2018, 12:01:08 AM
Dear members of the Pianostreet community,
The January Scale Challenge was completed successfully. In case you were reluctant in taking part,
here is your second chance! Forget about your bachs and your rachs, close the music stand and
and get those fingers moving! because:
more participants = more fun
The winner of January has announced the new scale for this month, which is:
Ab major
But before you sit at the piano and practice like a madman, keep reading, to learn about some slight changes and clarifications. As the criteria mentioned initially are a bit vague, I clarify them through some specific questions you can ask while listening:
Speed: how fast is it, compared to the fastest I have heard?
Rhythm: how steady is the beat, are all the notes rhythmically equal?
Evenness: Are there any accents or dynamic fluctuations?
(the cresc. and decresc. which is usually done on scales is of course OK)
Clarity: do notes overlap? do both hands go exactly together? how crisp is the sound?
For the newcomers, here is how the Scale Challenge works:
1) upload a video/audio file playing the scale of the month in the audition room under "February Scale Challenge" (hands together, 4 octaves)
2) Rate the others from 0 (worst) to 10 (best) in the following aspects:
a) speed
b) rhythm
c) evenness
d) clarity
3) Each participant is allowed to post one and only one recording per month and has to rate all the
other participants (except himself) only once.
ATTENTION!: When the deadline is over, the participant must have rated all the recordings, otherwise, the submission is not valid.
4) The instrument has to be either an acoustic piano or a digital piano with weighted keys.
5) The deadline for the recordings is 27th February, the deadline for the ratings is 28th February.
6) The one with the highest average score wins the challenge and is given the honorary title "Scalemaster" of the month as well as "Scalemaster" of the particular scale. The second title can be challenged in the future, by someone who scores higher on the exact same scale.
Good luck and practice with caution!
"Do you ask me how good a player you may become?
Then tell me how much you practice the scales"
