Radio interview and music broadcast
on: February 19, 2018, 09:17:44 PM
This is an interview with me, from US radio: hopefully it's of some interest. Talking about transcriptions, associated composers and pianists etc. For copyright reasons I've cut out most of the audio; I think I'm probably obligated to, but it's a lively, and quite lengthy, discussion nonetheless.

Hey Ronde,
I enjoyed the interview. You bring up many interesting points and stories..(Haven't listened the whole way yet…) When the subject of Frederic Lamond came up, i was curious to learn more about him. I found this - him talking about meeting Liszt -and lessons with him. A fascinating window. Also listened to some of his recordings, and curious to hear his 'waldstein'.. Quite interesting to hear that degree of rubato.. (tbh, i felt it pretty much broke the structure into pieces.) Regardless, it is wonderful to have a vibrant link to that time, and way of hearing..
(On a side note i ended up listening to Serkin's version of the 'waldstein' - the one i loved as a kid - and still do, but then heard Argerich turn the waldstein into a cartoon…(talk of taking liberties..
I look forward to hearing the rest of the interview.

As it happens, I've heard that recording of Lamond talking before, and it's really quite fascinating. The recording he made of Liebestraume no.3 which was discussed is also on youtube, as is the Wild Thalberg. The part which made a particular impression on me is here:
from 5.23.
I had a lot of fun doing this interview - it won't be every day that I get the opportunity to discuss these things on air!
