Bach Fantasia & Fugue in C minor, BWV 906
on: March 05, 2018, 10:55:38 PM
Any recommendations please for a printed edition? I'm struggling to find any.

It has to include the Fugue. This often gets omitted, but the people that put together the Trinity syllabus clearly like it (as do I!).

And really hoping for one with fingerings and with ornaments expanded.

Thanks!

Baroque Keyboard Pieces V (ed. Richard Jones) might be a contender

but it's not clear whether it has the fugue. Anyone know?

I might be missing something.  I see you are a gold member.

Edit:  I missed the word "printed".  Sorry.

Amazon shows several:

Edit2:

The edition Breitkopf says:

Contains the following pieces: Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue in D Minor, BWV 903 ; Fantasy with an Unfinished Fugue in C Minor, BWV 906 ; Adagio after the Violin Sonata C Major (Sonata movement) in G Major, BWV 968 ; Capriccio sopra la lontananza del suo fratello dilettissimo, BWV 992 ; Fugue and Allegro in E Major for Lute or Harpsichord, BWV 998

I decided to listen to this to see if I was familiar with this work.  The Fantasia – yes – heard it many times.  The fugue – No.  As I am sure you are aware, Bach never finished it (like the famous unfinished triple fugue from Art of Fugue).  When I listened to it on youtube just now, I felt the fugue continues in a way that I would say is quite unusual for Bach.

Here is an article that says Forkel believes only the 1st 30 measures are by Bach.

It would be interesting for me to study this fugue fragment in depth.  But I probably won’t.
