[Composition] A Few Piano Pieces
on: April 02, 2018, 06:22:42 AM
So first off, here's one I composed whilst sitting in a hotel room in Vegas last in July 2017:

This is my "Vignette for Piano," (I'm supposed to write like 5 other ones, but that's not happening until I finish this damn symphony lol) which I wrote to play for my romantic interest at the time. This was the first tonal piece I had written in a very long time, and it felt weird putting a key signature on the thing...(more on this later)

I was digging through my laptop today, and ended up going through some of my older works, in particular a set of preludes I composed in early 2016. This was actually my first serious composing project, and I completed it...sort of. I wrote all 10 pieces, but I never finalized them or anything, and some of it is still on that darn notebook sitting in the trunk of my car that I bring around with me anywhere.

I think some of you have heard some of these pieces already:

Op. 1 No. 5: Prelude in Ab

Op. 1 No. 7: Prelude in F (though it's not really a prelude lmao)

So I'm going to upload No. 1, 3, 8, and 9 today. The others are somewhere in my notebooks and I haven't had a chance to input them in the computer yet...

No. 1 was the first piece I wrote; this was my first "real" composition. I had had a bunch of doodles and stuff that I'm too self conscious to share (even though I like some of it), but this was my first real attempt to write a classical piece with form and everything. I think it turned out all right...it wasn't modern at all, and was kind of stuck in the romantic tradition.

No. 3 was actually written after 5, 6, and 7...there was actually supposed to be an "order" that you listened them in, and so they weren't numbered in chronological order. No. 3 was my first venture into atonality, using a composing system that I created...

No. 8 was another tonal piece I wrote - one of my last. Listening to it now, I can hear myself losing my youth in this piece...or turning away from it? Not sure.

No. 9 was !?!?!?!

Here's the score for the Vignette, as well as a sound file for No. 8. The others I don't have midi's for because they sound absolutely terrible on the computer (sorry, I suck too much to do a recording but maybe I'll do the first one some time!)

But if anyone wants to try them, knock yourselves out? (and send me a recording while you're at it :) )

I was reading through these earlier and I just felt I had to share them. Please let me know what you think!
