Chopin's Scherzo no. 2 or Ballade no 2?
on: October 25, 2018, 02:48:48 PM
Teacher gave me either one to play, but I'm having trouble which one. Can you guys help me choose which one I should learn? Technically either piece is doable for me but just need help in deciding due to my indecisive nature.

In the end I would choose the one that you enjoy more. Both are challenging and will require hard work and hours of practice. Technically I think the Ballade no. 2 might be a bit more difficult especially in the fast Presto con fueco sections. I've tried both pieces, but not formally learned them so sorry I can't be more help.

I personally think the Scherzo No. 2 is overall more romantic with a wider range of expression. I especially like the slow section. The Ballade no 2 is more virtuosic with with a more contemplative rather than emotive slow section.

Even though your teacher gave you the choice, if he/she has taught these pieces before they will know best what would work in your individual situation.
