Schubert D894
on: November 26, 2018, 02:09:05 AM

Franz Schubert is my favorite composer and the piano sonata in G Major D. 894 is one of Schubert’s works that I like the best. It is said that Robert Schumann described it as the "most perfect in form and conception" of any of Schubert's sonatas.

In an interview, Sviatoslav Richter said that it was his favorite Schubert sonata. Although I don’t take as slow a tempo as Richter in the 1st movement, it is still a long work (about 38 minutes).

I hope that anyone who takes the time to listen enjoys this interpretation.

Played on a Yamaha Clavinova CLP-340 and rendered with Garritan CFX concert grand.

0:00 I. Molto moderato e cantabile
17:09 II. Andante
25:20 III. Menuetto: Allegro moderato – Trio
29:29 IV. Allegretto
