Hi everyone,

So I'm looking for about 10minutes of repertoire to fit in the 60 minute recital stage of the competition.
The other pieces I'm doing in this stage are:
Beethoven op. 111
Chopin Polonaise op. 44
and a commissioned work around 6-7 minutes.

Unfortunately my Schoenberg Op 25 suite wouldn't fit due to the commissioned piece, and I'm a bit stuck in choosing something. Any recommendations welcome, even better if you list a few.

Personally, I think Beethoven's final three sonatas are not competition-pieces. There are simply too much room for drastically different opinions. Of course, all Beethoven sonatas are more controversial than, say, Mozart's, but his final three sonatas are incredibly difficult to perform in a competition.

But, since you have already chosen it, it's okay.

If there's no restriction, I would play Mendelssohn's Variations Serieuses. It's a tough piece, but it's impressive if you play it well. And, although it's very well known, it's a very memorable piece to play in a competition. Even if jurors have different ideas about the piece, it's something they definitely will appreciate.
