Hough - My Favorite Things
on: December 22, 2018, 08:07:37 PM
in the 1980's Stephen Hough published three transcriptions of Rodgers & Hammerstein selections, one of them was My Favorite Things from Sound of Music. it's a take-off on the 19th century opera paraphrase, except using music from the dramatic stage of our time, Broadway. what a brilliant idea, more composers should fashion Broadway tunes into virtuoso concert pieces like this. it's a little cerebral and hard to play perfectly but audiences just love hearing the tune in the concert setting. enjoy

bump ! it is stephen hough birthday. but he gave us the gift. these virtuoso, Lisztian arrangements of Rodgers & Hammerstein. i am surprised nobody thought of adding these to the concert repertoire until he came along. enjoy
