Bach/Hess - Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring
on: December 25, 2018, 10:42:20 PM
the widely played transcription from Bach's Cantata 147, what is interesting is that Myra Hess would have heard the English version, Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, rather than the German, Jesu, bleibet meine Freude. her own performance and notations on her transcription reflect the feeling of the English poem (not a translation) by Robert Bridges, rather than the more energetic and sunny German text.  enjoy music for all seasons happy xmas
